Road closed, but Whittier is Open!

It's quieter than normal in town due to the rock slide and road closure, but for the few privileged enough to be here, it's been gorgeous. The weather's been perfect and the water has been absolutely flat.

Additional signs of spring are visible every day. The kittiwakes are back at the rookery and we've already seen a black bear on the hillside across from town. Shrimping is also very good for those of us with pots out.

Although the road closure has made it challenging for fishermen to get here, the first limit of halibut was brought back this week by the Swee'Pea (Whittier Marine Charters). Most of the fish landed so far have been between 20-50 lbs.
